Hi, I’m Laura. I’m an Italian Canadian currently living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I started teaching knife skills and pasta workshops in 2023 through community organizations such as Everyone Every Day, Club Inclusion, MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning, and at the Anna Leonowens Gallery as an art project in a group exhibition. I have taught large groups of up to 15 people and worked with children, adults, artists, and individuals of varying abilities. I currently teach workshops to small groups in my apartment in the North End. This gives me the freedom to take the time that is necessary to teach a workshop properly, and, after, to have a sit down meal with participants.
I am an artist (laurabucci.com) and currently in a masters program of art education at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. This education is shaping how I design my workshops and the experience you will have. I’m interested in creating a space where talk flows easily. The environment where you learn a skill is important as is the method that is employed to teach or share knowledge. You can expect an informal atmosphere with attention to the educational experience. At each workshop I’ll share tips but I’ll also quiz participants about what they’ve learned—-this is fun and will help you to listen carefully, to check your understanding of the new material, as well as help you retain new information (the quiz is essentially a quick review). You will also learn proper pronunciation of Italian pasta vocabulary.

You might take a workshop to learn a new skill or you might take it to experience collaborative cooking and be in a social situation. I encourage you to reach out to your network and invite someone to take one of these workshops with you, perhaps reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in a while or that you want to know better.
